The Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), a glacial river lagoon in Iceland, is part of one of the shortest rivers in Iceland, Jökulsá á Breidamerkursandi, which is only 1500 meters (4900 feet) long.
The Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is next to highway number one, about 350 km east from Reykjavík, and it is said to be one of the greatest natural wonders in Iceland. The lagoon was made recently - the result of a warmer climate. The surface is at sea level and sea water flows into the lagoon at high tide.

Boar Tour of Glacier Lagoon Iceland
Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier, Breidamerkurjokull, and large icebergs from the glacier float out onto the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it is 160 meters deep. The glacier Breidamerkurjökull is a tongue of the glacier Vatnajökull - the largest ice-cap in Europe.

The company Jökulsárlón offers exciting boat trips on the Glacier Lagoon. And you can sail among the hugh icebergs. It is really fascinating. The ice from the glacier is over 1,000 years old. This is a very popular sightseeing attraction, widely regarded as the most picturesque scenery in all of south Iceland. The duration of the boat-trip is approximately 40 minutes.

The Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is the boundary between the settlements of Hrollaugur Rognvaldsson and Thórdur Illugi, who stranded his ship there and bought his land from Hrollaugur.
The Glacier Lagoon is a famous tourist attraction, and has been seen by more people than any other Icelandic site, but that in part due to the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice, being filmed there.

One fascinating and easily accessible day trip from the Skaftafell National Park is the mystic Jökulsárlón Lagoon. Due to ice breaking off the Vatnajökull glacier, the glacial lake is packed with luminous blue icebergs creating one the most picturesque places in Iceland. Scenes from the James Bond films, A View to a Kill & Die Another Day were filmed here and one feels just like agent 007 riding the monsterous boat / 4WD truck through the lake.

 HOW TO GET TO ICELAND
Flight schedules of international airlines flying to Iceland are listed in our Travel and Fishing Guides. The country is situated just south of the Arctic Circle, between Greenland and Norway, only about a 2½ hour flight from London. The International Airport Keflavik is situated in the southwestern part of the country, only a 45 minute drive from the capital.
JOKULSARLON TRAVEL GUIDE
Prior to 1950 the 1½ km long course of the glacial river Jokulsa was uninterrupted by any lagoon. Since then the glacier tongue has retreated and a lagoon, gradually increasing in area, was created. The average flow of the river is 250-300 m³/sec. and the edge of the glacier snout floats on the water. It calves into the lagoon and icebergs of different sizes can be seen aground and melting rather quickly. The lagoon is 284 metres deep. The river gets shorter and shorter, mainly because of the constant sea erosion, which eventually is going to destroy the bridge (built in 1967). The result will be a deep bay, which is going to grow longer the further the glacier snout retreats. The lagoon's surface has been lowered almost to sea level and sea water enters with the tides, increasing the water temperature. Salmon, capelin and herring enter the lagoon and the harbour seals follow the food. Eider ducks are very common on the lagoon. It is an unforgettable adventure to take a boat trip between the icebergs to admire the natural ice sculptures and the blue green colour of the ice. Just east of the lagoon is a small restaurant with toilets. The distance from the capital along the south coast is about 400 km.

The Glacier lagoon in Iceland is close to highway number one, about 370 km (230 miles) east from Reykjavík and it is told to be one of the greatest wonders of nature in Iceland. This is lagoon is a recent one, the result of a warmer climate. The surface is at sea level and sea water flows into the lagoon at high tide.

Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier, Breidamerkurjokull glacier, and large icebergs from the glacier float on the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but up to 250 meters deep which makes it the deepest lake in Iceland . The glacier Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is an outlet of the Vatnajökull glacier.

Glacier Lagoon is a famous tourist attraction, and has been seen by more people than other Icelandic sites, but that is due to a part of a James Bond film, Die another day, being filmed there.
We offer exciting boat trips on the glacier lagoon in one of our four amphibian boats. In the tour you sail among the huge icebergs in this unique scenic environment. In the tour you get to taste the, more than 1,000 year old ice and if you are lucky you might even see some seals.

The tour takes approximately 40 minutes and includes an English speaking guide who explains to you the geology and facts of the lagoon. Our guides talk a variety of languages. However language skills vary between guides so the guide you get might not speak your language.
We do about 35-40 trips a day during high season (1.July – 31. August) There is no schedule for the boat tours however the trips are very frequent, at least one every 30 minutes during high season, outside the high season the trips are still quite frequent.

Concordia Karakoram Range Top Best Places to See In Pakistan Concordia & Baltoro Glacier latest info 2012
http://20best.blogspot.com/2011/06/concordia-karakoram-camp-in-pakistan.html
Concordia is the most beautiful place on the planet, lies in the heart of the Karakoram range in Pakistan. Concordia offers the region’s best place to camp for mountain enthusiasts not involved in climbing. This is also called the “throne of the mountain gods”.
Here is Latest Photos of Concordia Karakoram 2012.

ADVENTURE TRIP TO CONCORDIA at K-2

Concordia & Baltoro Glacier Range Top 1 Rank in the world
These are from our K2 Concordia trek and Gasherbrum II expedition, June-August 2007.
All these were taken on Our treks - join us for the experience of a lifetime.
After a harrowing all-day 4-wheel-drive jeep ride from Skarku, we were happy to get on the trail and feel the solid earth under our feet. With majestic mountains of the Karakoram beckonning in the distance, we hiked eastward along the river (Biaho Lungma) flowing out of the Baltaro glacier. Occasionally we had to cross the river, using the suspension bridges provided.

Unexpectedly, the air temperature was an exhausting 105-degrees (F), and there was precious little shade along the way. Fortunately, the scenery was getting more spectacular as we approached the glacier, and occasionally there was a cool breeze coming across the glacier that provided momentary relief. Campgrounds were selected primarily by their proximity to fresh water, inasmuch as the water of the glacial melt was too full of silt for drinking or cooking purposes, even with proper treatment for contamination.

It quickly became obvious that the porters were providing a much-needed service by carrying all of the equipment and supplies needed for the journey. We carried only our own personal gear, which for me meant 20 pounds of camera equipment in addition to water, raingear, snacks, sunblock, etc. We left Askole with 63 porters, gradually dismissing them one by one as supplies were consumed. By the time we reached Hushe at the end of the trek, we had only 25 porters.

One of the formulas for successful acclimatization to high elevations is the practice of “Climbing high, sleeping low.” After a day's walk, and setting up camp, we frequently attempted to climb an additional 600-feet or so in elevation as an afternoon stroll. In addition to improving the adjustment to altitude, the views were spectacular, providing glimpses of worldclasss peaks as well as the route for the following day's journey.

The geology of the Karakoram is unique in the world, the result of the focusing of the tectonic collision between the Indian and Asian plates. The Himalayas are the result of the general upthrusting of the edges of the plates as they collided some 80 million years ago. But the region of the Karakoram is associated with the remnants of the up-ended plate bearing the offshore volcanic island chain, and is now referred to as the Kohistan-Ladakh Island Arc. The features associated with this dramatic event are evident everywhere, not only in the sheer near-vertical faces of many of the mountains on either side of the valley, but in the rock formations along the trail. I thought this rock formation was illustrative of the process.

Finally the Baltoro Glacier comes into view, and we are anticipating cooler temperatures once we climb up onto the glacier. Most of the remaining trek will consist of walking on glaciers. The Biaho Lungma River was coming right out of the nose of the glacier, and it appeared that the walking was suddenly going to get tougher as we negotiated the ups and downs of the uneven surface.

From the camp at Liligo, the last outpost harboring vegetation, we had dramatic views of the mountains on the north side of the glacier. The most impressive (photo) was Cathedral (5828 meters), although the Trango Towers were a close second (below photo).

My friend (and tentmate) John took this photo of the Trango Towers on his return trip down the Baltoro Glacier. Compare it with the photo I took earlier in the trip in the middle of the night. It looks like we stood at the same spot!

This is a 180-degree panorama taken from Liligo camp. The massive mountain to the right of center is Cathedral, while the Trango Towers are to the left of center. To see a QTVR movie of this panorama, click on the photograph.
There is an optical illusion going on in this photograph, but it is simply two porters crossing one of many small bridges erected over small streams flowing on the surface of the glacier. We seldom walked directly on the ice, since slow movement of the glacier assures the grinding and mixing up of rock on adjacent sides of the glacier, resulting in a thick mixture of rock and ice.

Barcelona is one of the best places in the world to appreciate the Mediterranean atmosphere. It is a city to be found on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is one of the great architectural wonders of the world. Still under construction, it is the crowning achievement of Antoni Gaudi (1852–1926), a truly devout Catholic known as "God's architect." The Holy Father will be visiting Sagrada Familia in November to celebrate the opening of a portion of the interior of this remarkable building. The following interview appears on the Zenit website.

Here is the Latest Photos of Barcelona Temple 2012

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital city of Catalonia. This place has won the esteemed 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal, mainly because of the structural designs of edifices. Not all cities have had the prestige of having that award. It used to be just architects who win awards like these, but Barcelona has pretty much done it as a city. That’s how beautiful this city is as far as architecture is concerned. Add the fact that Barcelona is included in the top 10 list by a Travel Magazine under the category of must-visit places in Europe

The early 20th century structural designs of Catalan were developed here in Barcelona between 1885 and 1950. True enough, it has left a vital heritage in the city. Group of these creations are now known as World Heritage Sites. Part of these sites are works of the celebrated architect Antoni Gaudí, responsible for the great but still-in-progress temple of the Sagrada Família (construction of this started in year 1882 and is due for completion in 2026).

Another renowned architect was Lluís Domènech i Montaner, who was responsible for the design of the Palau de la Música Catalana.
Barcelona is a great destination for historical pieces as it a convergence of a good number of museums, one of which is The City History Museum that used to be a royal residence. Works of Joan Miró can be found in the museum of the Fundació Joan Miró. The Picasso Museum can also be found in Barcelona, which features early works by Pablo Picasso.

Barcelona also now has a revitalized coastline which is always picture-worthy nowadays.
Taste for yourself the gastronomical delights of this city. Pan con tomate with tapas are some of the originals of Barcelona, and these can very much go well with your choice of wine.

The Strangest Landscapes in the world Cappadocia

Loaction of Cappadocia
Turkey audaciously straddles across Europe and Asia to develop a distinct culture that mirrors both West and East. It is a terrific land where European ambitions mesh harmoniously with Asian background and the capricious atmosphere of the Middle East blends itself effortlessly into the chilled-out façade of the Mediterranean world.

The region of Cappadocia (Capadokya) is located in central Turkey, and is the setting for one of the strangest landscapes in the world. The deep valleys and soaring rock formations are volcanic rock formations, slowing eroding away to create the strange "Fairy Chimneys" (so called because locals thought they were so magical and extraordinary that only fairies could have created them). Many of these fairy chimneys have been hollowed out by industrious ancient people, who created homes, chapels, tombs and pigeon houses from the soft, carve-able rock. They also tunneled below, creating underground cities, some 8 stories down.

History Of Cappadocia
In the upper Myosen period in the Cappadocia region as a result of the vulcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandag and Gulludag, in the region was formed a large tableland from the vulcanic tufas and together with the erosion of the Kizilirmak river and wind over ten thausands of years there appeared the chimney rocks which are a wonder of the nature. In the old Bronze Age the Cappadocia which was the population zone of the Assyrian civilization later has hosted the Hittite, Frig, Pers, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman civilizations. The first Christians escaped from the persecution of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century B.C. came to the Cappadocia over the Antakya and Kayseri and they have settled here. The first Christians finding the underground cities from Cappadocia have been hidden in these underground cities which gates were made in such way in which they couldn't be easily observed and they have escaped from the persecution of the Roman soldiers. Due that they had live in the underground cities for long duration without being able to go out they have developed these underground cities by making provisions rooms, ventilation chimneys, wine production places, churches, abbeys, water wells, toilets and meeting rooms.
In the prehistoric periods the first human settlements have begun and the humans have constructed the underground cities in the volcanic rocks in form of tufa due to protect themselves from the wild animals and they lived for long times in these underground cities. There are so many underground cities on the Cappadocia area of Turkey but the biggest is Derinkuyu Underground City.

 FAIRY CHIMNEYS(Cappadocia Underground City)
The interesting rock formations, known as "fairy chimneys", have been formed as the result of the erosion of this tufa layer, sculpted by wind and flood water, running down on the slopes of the valleys. Water has found its way through the valleys creating cracks and ruptures in the hard rock. The softer, easily erodable material underneath has been gradually swept away receding the slopes and in this way, conical formations protected with basalt caps have been created.
The fairy chimneys with caps, mainly found in the vicinity of Urgup, have a conical shaped body and a boulder on top of it. The cone is constructed from tufa and volcanic ash, while the cap is of hard, more resistant rock such as lahar or ignimbrite. Various types of fairy chimneys are found in Cappadocia. Among these are those with caps, cones, mushroom like forms, columns and pointed rocks.
Fairy chimneys are generally found in the valleys of the Uchisar- Ürgüp-Avanos triangle, between Urgup and Sahinefendi, around the town of Cat in Nevsehir, in the Sogani valley in Kayseri, and in the village of Selime in Aksaray  .
